Ladle

The collection, careful preservation, deep study and popularization of the national heritage of our people, its communication to the population and transmission to future generations are the main tasks of museums and museum workers. Through national heritage and historical values, museums play a very important role in instilling love for our native Fatherland, our people, its history and national heritage, and educating young people in the national spirit. Cholpy, which means ladle in Turkmen, presented in the ethnography department of the Ak Bugday National Museum, is a kitchen utensil woven from simple twigs. Our ancestors in the past made this item for girls and women, who widely used it in the household, scooping this or that dish from the cauldron. Thus, the ladle in those days was used as a modern colander. The ladles were made from thin, long, wet willow branches in the shape of a flat spoon. Wet branches did not change their shape when drying. To prevent it from falling off, the handle of the ladle was secured with alaja made of white and brown threads. The ladle was dark brown in color. Overall, it looked like a colander or strainer. Today, ladles are used very rarely. Museums have wide opportunities to popularize national heritage and activities in this direction.
