PLANTAIN

There are about 10 types of weed medicinal plants growing in Turkmenistan. Plantain is found in all regions of our country. It grows in moist areas of the plains, in the mountains, near springs, along the banks of rivers and streams. In medicine, its leaves and herbaceous parts are used as medicinal raw materials. Raw materials should be gathered from the moment of flowering of the plant (from May to August) until yellowing or partial reddening of the leaves. Plantain roots contain steroids such as sitosterol, stigmasterine, cholesterol, campesterine and high levels of linoleic fatty acids. The leaves of the plant also contain carbohydrates and polysaccharides, mucus, mannitol, sorbitol, aucubin and catalin iridoids, phenol tyrosol, vanillin, ferulic, salicylic, benzoic phenolcarbonic acids, bitter substances. In Tibetan, Chinese, Mongolian and Korean medicine, fresh leaves, syrups and medicinal fluids of the plant are used as a wound healing agent, for gastrointestinal diseases, diarrhea, enteritis, pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchitis, pleurisy, nephritis and nosebleeds. The syrup mixed with bee honey can be used as a diuretic for dysuria in children. Medicinal decoctions from plantain seeds are used in practical gynecology for endocrine infertility in women.
