The Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan defines, reviews, and approves the key directions of the country’s domestic and foreign policy, as well as the laws and programs for the nation’s political, economic, and cultural development. The Halk Maslahaty listens to the annual addresses of the President of Turkmenistan, considers issues of peace and security, exercises the right of legislative initiative, and performs additional powers as provided for by the laws of Turkmenistan. Our people have great confidence that the implementation of this new form of popular representation will contribute to the further development of our society and state, and strengthen their position within the international community. The Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan draws inspiration from the national democratic traditions and enduring societal values of the people, which have withstood centuries of trials. It actively contributes to the advancement of civil society, the development of representative authorities, the strengthening of the legal foundations of our Independent and Permanently Neutral State, and the enhancement of the reliable protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms.
